Phentermine Side Effects

Phentermine, like all prescription drugs, has side effects, some of which are desirable, such as appetite suppression and providing an energy boost, but others are not as pleasant. Every prescription drug currently available has some risk of side effect and Phentermine is no exception to this rule. For this reason, it is important to know about the potential side effects of the drug before you start using it.

Phentermine Side Effects

Taking Phentermine to lose weight does come with some risks, including a long list of side effects.

There are two categories of Phentermine side effects of which you should become aware. The first is allergic reactions and the second is mild to severe side effects. Both should be taken very seriously, but if an allergic reaction occurs, your doctor should be contacted immediately and you should not continue taking the drug until you have made certain that it is safe by speaking with your doctor. If any of the following allergic reactions occur, call your local emergency services to get yourself to an emergency room immediately:

  • Swelling of the lips, tongue, or face
  • Partial throat closure
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Hives (a blotchy bumpy red rash which may be itchy)
  • Very high blood pressure
  • An abnormal heartbeat
  • A very painful headache
  • Hallucination
  • Blurred vision
  • Confusion
  • Odd behavior

Aside from allergic reactions, there is also the risk of Phentermine side effects. As long as none of these side effects are extreme, you can continue to use the drug safely even if you are experiencing them. This being said, if you do have symptoms of Phentermine side effects, it is advisable to alert your doctor about them. Known side effects of this medication include:

  • Shaking or trembling
  • Restlessness
  • Sleeplessness
  • Anxiety or stress levels (higher than usual)
  • Dizziness
  • Mild headache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • An unpleasant taste in the mouth
  • Impotence or changes in libido

Your doctor or the pharmacist should also explain to you that Phentermine can be addictive, likely because the body becomes accustomed to the change in neurotransmitter function, though that is not known for certain. Over time, the efficacy of this drug also decreases in the body. To avoid very unpleasant side effects or withdrawal symptoms, you should never increase your dose of Phentermine any higher than the directions from your doctor.

These are not the only possible Phentermine side effects, but are the most common. Be aware of anything new that you experience after taking the drug and be sure to tell your doctor about any new symptoms that may occur.

I’m not sure if I want to take this or not does it really work? and I’m only 22 am I to young?

Tiffany, I would say ‘yes’, I think you are too young. You have a lot of other options. I am 47 and doing this to avoid stomach surgery. I no longer have a thyroid, and even though I take synthroid, I continue to gain weight..
